'Early Literacy Symposium' at Aurangabad, November 2018

QUEST organized a 4-day 'Early Literacy Symposium' for teachers and teacher educators from Maharashtra. Stalwarts from the field shared their work and strategies. It was a rich exchange of ideas, theoretical & practical knowledge! It was supported by READ Alliance & Center for Knowledge Societies.

Early literacy is still an emerging field in India especially in the context of ground-breaking research in Indian languages for children learning in difficult circumstances.

About Goshtarang                                                                                          

Goshtarang project is part of QUEST’s ‘reading writing enhancement program’, which introduces books and authors to students in rural and tribal areas, using theatrical performances based on story books.

Since 2016, Theatre Facilitators trained by theatre experts have performed several shows of stories in Marathi, for Elementary School Children in tribal areas in Palghar ​and Municipal Schools in Pune.

Training of 'Shikshak Sahayogis, Nov. 12, 2017, Pune

QUEST, Pune City Connect, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Pune Municipal Corporation's Education Department have undertaken the 'Saksham' program for students who are falling behind in their studies. For the last year and a half, the program was tried out in 13 model schools. From June 2017, it has been extended to 206 schools of Marathi and urdu medium. For this extension, around 37 'Shikshak Sahayogis' are being trained. The training is mainly on how to train teachers in carrying out the 'Saksham' program, and to provide onsite support.

दिनांक 8-11-17 रोजी बीड येथील ‘सोनदरा गुरुकुलम्’ च्या 18 कार्यकर्त्यांनी क्वेस्टला भेट दिली. दिवसाची सुरुवातच दमदार झाली – गोष्टरंगच्या टीमने तीन गोष्टी सादर केल्या. पाहुणे आणि त्यांची मुलं या सर्वांनाच खूप मजा आली! नंतर क्वेस्टचे प्रोजेक्ट ऑफिसर अतुल गायकवाड यांनी क्वेस्टच्या सर्व कार्यक्रमांची माहिती दिली. प्रत्यक्ष काम पाहण्यासाठी पाहुण्यांना देवगाव आश्रमशाळेत नेलं. तिथे बालभवन, सक्षम व लायब्ररी हे तीन कार्यक्रम पाहिले. त्यांना हे सर्व कार्यक्रम खूपच आवडले. या कार्यक्रमात 'पूर्वनियोजन' केल्याने प्रत्यक्ष कार्यक्रम राबवताना येणारी सहजता या गोष्टीची त्यांनी विशेष दखल घेतली व

The QUEST team 'rocked' the conference of Maharashtra Balshikshan Parishad! 
The conference was held at Pune on Oct. 27-28. One of the QUESTians, Rupali Patil, presented a research paper on 'Moving from English medium to Marathi medium'. A short film on 'Ankur' was screened, which highlighted the work on Early Childhood Education. Nilesh Nimkar (Director, QUEST) chaired the session on Technology in Education, and opined that technology cannot replace the teacher, it can only help the teacher teach more effectively. The Goshtarang team performed 3 stories and regaled the audience!

'Kumathe Beat' in Satara district is famous for its educational innovations in the Govt. schools. The Development Officer of Kumathe Beat, Praitbha Bharade, and Block Education Officer, Namdev Mali, visited QUEST on Sept. 12, 2017. Their main objective was to see how tribal children learn to read and write, how they cope with the difference in the home language and school language and what measures teachers can take to help in the process.

Saksham Orientation Workshop, September 2-3, 2017

'Saksham' is a level-based program developed by QUEST, to empower teachers to help students who are 'falling behind' in their studies. Many students, specially in rural areas, are studying in grade 5 / 6 / 7, but have not mastered the basic concepts of language and math which are covered in primary school. 

The QUEST team organized an orientation workshop about 'Saksham', for a group of interested teachers, on Sept. 2-3, 2017 at Pune. The participants came from various parts of Maharashtra, including Pune, Sangli, Beed, Latur, Usmanabad, Kalyan etc.
