'Change Workshop': January 4-8, 2016

QUEST & Azim Premji University jointly hosted a workshop on ‘Introduction to Intervention Led Educational Change’, January 4-8, 2016, in Pune. It offered participants an opportunity to learn principles underlying educational change, and appreciate new, expert roles required at multiple levels. It was attended by members from NGOs working with the education system, CSR organizations, funding agencies, education functionaries within the system and teachers. Mr. Shashi Nair and his team from Azim Premji University facilitated the workshop.

'Sugandha' - publications by KGBV students

Here are two 'publications' prepared by students of KGBV students in 2015 - 'Sugandha', the magazine contains articles, pictures and stories by the students. What is unusual is that the students have typed and scanned images and printed out the text completely on their own!! As part of QUEST's Saksham program, the KGBV students were trained to use computers. They became proficient in typing (Marathi), saving files, scanning images etc. 'Sugandha' has been used as a case study for all KGBV schools - the principals and teachers are being encouraged to undertake such initiatives. 

Akanksha Foundation team visits QUEST

A team of 18 teachers and 3 supervisors from Akanksha Foundation visited QUEST on January 7-8, 2016. Akanksha Foundation runs schools for children from low economic backgroungs, where they teach English, Marathi and Hindi. To teach Marathi, they use 'Maze Pustak'. The QUEST team showed them classroom activities under 3 main programs - Balbhavan (Pali 1 & 2 Ashram Shala), Active Library (Devgaon) and Ankur (Peek and Gargaon Anganwadi). The visitors were quite impressed with the classroom setup and how the QUEST team members were communicating with the students.

Training Anganwadi Sevikas - Dec. 16-19, 2015

Under its 'Ankur' program, QUEST works with 110 Anganwadis in Wada taluka. On Dec. 16-19, 2015, resource person Meena Nimkar conducted a workshop for the Anganwadi sevikas, on teaching language and math using simple materials such as strings, flowers, grains etc. They also watched special videos produced by QUEST on Early Childhood Education and practiced lessons in groups.


Saksham team trains KGBV principals on quality education, Dec. 8-11, 2015

QUEST’s ‘Saksham’ team participated as resource persons in a workshop organized by Maharashtra Prathamik Shikshan Parishad (Mumbai), SCERT (Pune) & UNICEF. Principals and District coordinators of 43 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas attended the workshop. QUEST’s work in the KGBVs in Jalna district was used as a case study to discuss concrete ways for improving the quality of education in these schools. QUEST participates in 'Aakar' for Early Childhood Education

Government of Maharashtra and UNICEF have developed a state-wide curriculum for Early Childhood Education, for children in the age group of 3-6 years. Named ‘Aakar’, this curriculum is designed by a committee which has members with many years of experience in ECE. Aakar will be implemented at 3 levels simultaneously – urban, rural and tribal – in the Anganwadis run by the state. QUEST’s experience and insights from the ‘Ankur’ program have been used in designing Aakar.

Samajun Umajoon Workshop: Nov. 17-20, 2015

The Samajoon Umajun workshop on 'Teaching Fractions' was held at Sonale from Nov. 17 to 20. Twenty four teachers from various places in Maharashtra participated in it along with ten QUEST team members. Nilesh Nimkar (Director, QUEST) was the principal resource person, assisted by Pralhad Kathole, Kalpesh Patil and Tushar Marade.

The main topics / themes covered in the workshop were:

1. Aspects of effective Mathematics teaching

2. Fractions on number line

3. Fractions on dots grid

4. Equivalence and comparison of fractions

5. Operations on fractions  

6. Fractions : area model


Mr. Khullar & Mr. Bangar's visit to QUEST

The QUEST team was happy to welcome Mr. Khullar (Principal Secretary, Energy, Govt. of Maharashtra) and Mr. Bangar (Collector, Palghar dist.) who visited QUESTon Nov. 21, 2015. The team gave them information about 'Pustakgadi' project which is going on in tribal areas of Palghar dist. as well as other projects such as Saksham and Ankur.


'Vachan Prerana Diwas' celebrated by QUEST at various locations

October 15, 2015 was declared by the state government as 'Vachan Prerana Diwas', on the occasion of late ex-President Dr Abdul Kalam's birth anniversary. The QUEST team celebrated this day by organizing various events at the project locations. Here are a few glimpses of the same:
